We strive for innovation within Swissmedic.

Our mission

Swissmedic 4.0 is an innovative lab prioritizing digital transformation through interdisciplinary work, developing new digital business models, and collaborating with Swissmedic's divisions to enhance operations.

Since 2020

At Swissmedic, digital transformation is taking place at the intersection of three dimensions: Human, Organization, and Technology.

How we work

Swissmedic's digital initiative encourages proactive adaptation to digital challenges through collaboration, continuous improvement, and a holistic approach with three focus dimensions for sustainable growth.

The three dimensions

  • The 'Human' category encompasses objectives and initiatives that demonstrate the advantages and efficacy of new digital modalities. The emergence of innovations like ChatGPT highlights the need for organizations and individuals to acquire new skills to critically navigate digital tools. Our aim is to provide education and information on the impact of digital transformation on individuals in both the short and long term. The organization will disseminate knowledge and skills through workshops, forums, training, reporting, agreements, transfers, and bilateral discussions.

  • Changes in digitalization require organizational adaptation. In the field of ‘Organization’, Swissmedic 4.0 addresses current digital developments, seeks to thoroughly understand and apply them. Swissmedic 4.0 also has a bridging function, responsible for integrating findings into the organization. Employees should be aware of these changes.

  • The 'Technology' field of action pertains to goals and projects that maintain and further develop the value of existing infrastructure in line with technological progress. We collaborate closely with the divisions to create digital solutions that enhance effectiveness and streamline processes.

Interested in what we do?

We have learned a lot about building AI solutions end-2-end, from user experience design to machine learning operations. The products resulting from this learning deliver value to Swissmedic users every day.

We have all become experts in different areas, from agile working to prompt engineering, and are happy to share our knowledge. If you want to know more about our expertise and skills, take a look for yourself!

Our work is reflected in many figures. If you'd like to crunch some numbers and find out what impact Swissmedic 4.0 is having on the organisation as a whole, go to the Facts and Figures page.

One of the things we do is find unusual ways to get people excited about technology. For example, we built some video games with no-code platforms to entertain Swissmedic employees during the Christmas season.
